Language and the human mind

Image
People who have at one time put in the work to learn a new language have soon realized that, in the end of it all you end up using philosophical literature to learn to the language. This seems fair, because probably if you can understand the language then most likely you can understand the philosophy writings which are usually vague. while studying Korean, I  came across a multitude of words that did not have direct translations, in other words the english language and most likely all latin based languages do not acknowledge the existence of the phenomenon; or lets say emotion since most of these were emotions. To help you understand, the Japanese and Korean words of ice cream are actually written as ice cream, because these communities of people originally didnot have ice cream in their lives and therefore  had no word for it. The above paragraph brings me to an understanding that, one's language can actually limit the things that they experience. If the word sad didnot e...

reckless love of robots

Image
If you have left your bed today, chances are you have touched something whose manufacturing process was at least partly if not wholly executed by a robot. However, gone are the days when robots lived in the factories, for very soon they might not only be part of our working colleagues but also part of our families. A few years ago, people argued that a robot could never live like a human being because they could not think and lacked human intuition. However, the development of artificial intelligence has made this a thing of the past. Unlike in the last decade or so, today the million-dollar question is whether one could be friends with a robot or not. My reaction to this question is “why not?” My idea of the future is that robots will integrate into the everyday life of human beings helping us with everyday chores like housework, cleaning of our homes and offices, serving us in coffee shops and going as far as providing security to name but a few. I believe that one of the bigg...

Rememebering that i will be dead soon, thus chasing my dream

Image
A year ago, I applied for a scholarship to one of the most developed nations of our time-South Korea. All I wanted was to come here and do electrical engineering. it didn't matter even for a second that I was leaving my family behind, or my friends, or everything I have ever known for a better chance of achieving my dream. on this day I lie on my bed during one of my numerous sleepless nights, wondering how I made it here, how I even qualified, how I studied through elementary school, primary school, and secondary school and even though I failed at numerous points along the way I still got here. I keep wondering, what is it that makes me special, why wasn't one of those rich kids, or beautiful girls, or the popular handsome boys that made it here.., even though I might have not realized it then, I am here because I knew what I wanted, I am simply here because I choose to be here- and no it wasn't easy or else every one you and I know would be here. it was hard, sleep...

Creativity- The fundamental purpose of man

Image
I have come to the realization that the fundamental purpose of man must be to create things that do not already exist. For example, a woman literally creates when she gives birth to a child. Always endeavour to be creating something with your hands; it doesn't matter whether it is a blog or youtube videos on your channel, or writing peoms. Everything that you see around you, from the chair that you are seated on, to this screen that you are looking at, or even the clothes on your body all have resulted from the creativity of man. Did you know that even researchers who claim to discover stuff, first create or make up the theories, carry out experiments then if the experiments support their made up theory then they have discovered something new. Every one of us has the God-given ability to create something new, and that's just how the world gets changed. The greatest inventors of our times, be it Steve Jobs or Thomas Edison, will all go down in history as excepti...

How to fight sleep while studying.

So I have occasionally suffered from sleep during my lectures and studying periods until when it finally hit me. For some reason, if you just keep breathing, I mean breathing consciously (Oh God I know you aren't dead and are obviously breathing), you don't fall asleep hihihi. This really sounds stupid. If anyone out there wants to try it, please try and help me confirm that it actually works. So it turns out, for you to sleep, you must actually sort of hold your breath for a while, then blackout. I mean, at that moment of blacking out, you actually do hold your breath. Well, so all you have to do now is to make sure you don't hold your breath- like at all, and you are all set.

new me

So originally this is a blog I started in my first semester in university as an assignment from my ICT lecturer at the time. Am confident that no one will ever really read it, and that is exactly why I have come back to write here. I love the fact that I can come here and scribble my random and sometimes ridiculous thoughts, and also the fact that unlike as is the case with facebook and twitter, or even Instagram, no one will come here to read this. I long for the day when I can come here and re-read my own thoughts and ridiculous ideas. So I intend to use this as sort of like a diary, because I have never really owned one, and since we are living in the dot com era, most likely an old blog can serve this purpose. Even though I had previously abandoned this blog, I feel like it gives me a chance to put some of my free time to good use, in a really relaxed manner; of course, the lecturer already marked this assignment and he won't be back to check this- so am totally relaxed and rea...

CRISPR 2.0

You’ve probably heard of the molecular scalpel CRISPR-Cas9, which can edit or delete whole genes. Now, scientists have developed a more precise version of the DNA-editing tool that can repair even smaller segments of a person’s genome. In two studies published this month, one in  Nature  and another in  Science , researchers from the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard describe a new way to edit DNA and RNA, called base editing. The approach could one day treat a range of inherited diseases, some of which currently have no treatment options. The human genome contains six billion DNA letters, or chemical bases known as A, C, G and T. These letters pair off—A with T and C with G—to form DNA’s double helix. Base editing, which uses a modified version of CRISPR, is able to change a single one of these letters at a time without making breaks to DNA’s structure. That’s useful because sometimes just one base pair in a long strand of DNA ...
